SOL 35: Ziplines

"You can go" The woman tells me. "Can you be more bored sounding?" I think as I trudge past her and onto the beach. I look out at the water and am disappointed that the bay is shielded by large (obviously artificial) heaps of rocks, which happen to be blocking my view. Oh well. I trudge through the sand, being careful not to get any sand in my shoes, because getting sand out of your shoes is a pain in the butt. Soon, I arrive at the tower, which is basically a slightly glorified staircase. I run up the first few flights of stairs, but quickly tire because I have been running up stairs all week. I climb up the few remaining flights of stairs, and reach the top just in time to see Logan fall backwards off of the tower. I jump forward, then realize that he was attached to a zipline, and is not a suicidal person. I wait for a short time, and then the dude running the zipline hooks me the zipline. After talking into his radio to a mysterious person (some person with our class below who is yelling into a radio and I somehow did not see) for a little while he gives me the ok. "You can go now." He says. With a final breath, I fall backwards, into the thin air, and zip away on the zipline.

Foundation

This week I read Foundation (and the entire Foundation series) by Isaac Asimov. The Foundation series tells the story of the death of the Galactic Empire, and the creation of two Foundations to preserve culture and technology. The goal of the First Foundation is to, after a thousand years, establish a second Galactic Empire. The Second Foundation is hidden, and is made up of psychohistorians who are tasked with making sure the First Foundation stays on track to form a second Galactic Empire. The foundation stays reliable as the galaxy splinters into small kingdoms that quickly relapse into barbarism.
I really liked this series even though this is my second time reading it. The plot and characters are extremely complex, and even though the series was started in 1950, the future described in the books seems realistic. The plot is interesting, and kept me on my toes. This gets a 9.9/10

I am reading The Invisible Man by HG Wells

Before the Golden Age

This week, I read Before The Golden Age by Isaac Asimov, an anthology of science fiction from the 1930s. The pieces of science fiction were selected as pieces that influenced his career in a major way. The book contains The Man Who Awoke by Lawrence Manning, Tumithak in Shawm by Charles R. Tanner, Colossus by Donald Wandrei, Born of the Sun by Jack Williamson, Sidewise in Time by Murray Leinster, and Old Faithful by Raymond Z. Gallun.
I really liked this book because of how many stories it contained and how various each story is. In all the stories, the plot is extremely detailed and has interesting characters. This book earns an 9/10.

SOL 34 the Om Nom Monstor

Recently I was sitting about wondering what to do when suddenly the Om Nom Monster burst through the door. The Om Nom Monster is a very fearsome beast, complete with long fangs, a hairy body and a cry of "OM NOM NOM!!" that scares the daylights out of any soul. The Om Nom Monster takes control of your body and forces you to go and eat so many snacks. I was instantly possessed by the Om Nom Monster, and was made to consume snacks. Once the monster was satisfied, it left and I wrote this slice.

Frankenstein

This week I read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Frankenstein is the story of a monster created by a mad scientist. This monster (Frankenstein) is created out of stolen body parts, and once it comes alive, its creator recoils from what he has made. As Frankenstein is tortured by its loneliness it turns to violence against the humans that send it away. Frankenstein vows to kill its creator, the man that brought it into the world, and that shunned it.
To be honest, I didn't really like this book too much. I know how Frankenstein is hailed as one of the best horror books ever written, but I hated it. Most of the time, the plot was less exciting than watching toenails grow. The not-as-slow parts were just interesting enough for me to stop watching my toenails grow. This book is a big steaming heap of po o. Honestly, I have read better Bob books. So, do yourself a favor. Do not read Frankenstein. (You should read it if your hobby is shoving X-Acto under your fingernails, since is is only mildly more exciting)

SOLC 33: Hamster Named Google UPGRADED

Today Google the Hamster is very happy. Very happy. He is happy because I have gotten him a new cage. His new cage is a MEGA UPGRADE MAXIMUM, a new Chromebook Pixel. His cage is higher resolution, meaning that he appears even more green. Google the hamster is now engaging in his favorite pastimes like insulting Apple the hamster, with a faster retort speed and a better water animation.  Happy Birthday Google the hamster.

Dracula

This week I read the classic horror story Dracula. Dracula is the story of Jonathan Harker and friends as they struggle to protect their loved ones, stay human, and destroy Dracula. Jonathan Harker and his friends must defeat the vampire, a ancient being whose cunning outwits Jonathan frequently.
I really liked how this book told its story through letters, diary entrys, and newspaper clippings. The characters are interesting, and the plot is suspenceful, with exciting twists and turns that no one could predict. Little details snowball over time, creating an engrossing plot. The one thing I did not like about this book was the ending. The end of the book was anticlimactic, and left the reader wanting more. I would give this book an 9.6/10.

SOL 33: Landing On A Bus

I whip around the corner with a tap of the brakes and a touch of Nitro. I speed past another car, one step closer to first place. I see the next part of the track and consider my options. I could take the high mountain pass and risk an accident, or I could go with the rest of the racers down the road. I take the pass. You know what they say: go big, or go home. And I wasn't going to go home today. As I drift around another corner, I see a huge jump up ahead. My reptile mind slowly processed this information, until it realized I was in midair. In a extremely expensive car. As the car tipped forward, I noticed a bus below me. In fact, this bus was not below me, but in front of me on the ground. Then, as I watch, powerless to do anything, the impossible happens. My car lands on the bus. Not on the top of the bus, but on the windshield. "Stupid buses" I think as I tuck my phone in my pocket, having finished playing Asphalt 8 for the night.

The Maltese Falcon

This week, I read the Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. The Maltese Falcon is a book about a detective named Sam Spade who is hired to track down a falcon statue worth several million dollars. I thought that this book was moderately good, though it got weighed down by how the author described exactly how a character rolled a cigarette. This book were extremely detailed, with the character's wearing different clothes every day. I liked this book, and would recommend it to anyone who likes REALLY detailed books.

SOL 32: My Kingdom

My kingdom is a place of unrestrained creativity and a place where any idea is considered. My kingdom is rather small, but is a major exporter of blog posts, of art, and of ideas. My kingdom is partly ruled by an old plastic model of a dinosaur. My kingdom stores much of my ideas on a hard drive. My kingdom is defended by a brick used to silence particularly annoying people. My kingdom's entire stores of food consist of a half eaten box of thin mint cookies. The population of my kingdom is 1 person, 1 dinosaur, 1 model turret from portal 2, bricky the brick, and my computer. My kingdom is very messy, because creativity requires messiness. My kingdom is my desk.

GREEN MARS

This week, I read Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Green Mars is the second book in the Mars Trilogy, and not quite as good as the first book. This book follows the adventures of Nirgal as he learns about Mars and helps transform it into planet worth living on. Nirgal is one of the first generation of people born on Mars, and also one of the key people intent on starting a revolution and yanking Mars from Earth's control.

This book was an entertaining read for me, mostly because of how accurate the science was. This book accurately depicted the possibilities and limitations of technology that could be used to colonize and terraform a planet. In this book, one of the main hardships on emigrants to Mars was muscle atrophy. Muscle atrophy is when a person's muscles weaken when in space or on an alien planet due to decreased gravity. If that person stays in that state for too long, they will never be able to re-adjust to earth gravity. I really liked this book, and would give it a 8/10, mainly because of how accurate the science was, and how interesting the characters are. This book is comparable to 2312 or Dune.

When I die, I want my last words to be interesting. Something like "What bear?" or "I don't see any snakes." When I die, I want my funeral to be a celebration, not a cry-fit.

When I die, I want my remaining money to be used to buy the largest cake possible.

SOLC 29: SASGASDGADFASDFGD

Sometimes I wonder whether if when I hit random keys the computer is trying to tell me something. ADGAFGADFAS. The computer wants to tell me something, I know it. Using autocorrect to decipher ADGAFGADFAS gets you ADGA GADFAS. Putting ADGA GADFAS into google search brings up a mysterious webpage that, when you click it, has you download a file. When I open this file, I am prompted to download a flashcard app. Maybe my computer was trying to tell me something...

SOLC 28: MR. Offroader

Say hello to Mr. Offroader. Mr. Offroader is a monster truck, and comes from a very long line of monster trucks. Now, Mr. Offroader was kidnapped from a Radioshack yesterday by an EVIL person. Mr. Offroader overheard the evil person talking about how he is going to disassemble Mr. Offroader and make him into an autonomous vehicle. Mr. Offroader is very scared now. Please help him!

SOLC 27: What To Do When You Are Bored/Feeling Bad/Feeling Insignificant

1. Go outside.

2. Sit down.

3. Look at anything natural (trees, grass, the sky, etc).

4. Consider your measly little achievements, and make a list on a piece of paper.

5. Make a list of whatever you are looking at's achievements.

6. Compare lists.

7. Realize that without nature, there would be no oxygen.

8. Realize that without oxygen, monkeys would not be alive.

9. Realize that without the monkeys, humans would not exist.

10. Realize that you are totally insignificant, and just a speck on a planet that is a speck in a solar system, that is a speck in a galaxy, which turns out to be a speck in the universe.

11. Go back to feeling insignificant.

SOLC 25: RED MARS

This week, I read Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Red Mars is about a group of 100 colonists who are sent to Mars with the goal of terraforming it into something habitable to live on. As the colonists begin their life on Mars, friendships rise and fall, rivalries form, and Mars will be changed forever.

I really liked this book, mainly due to how accurate the science is in it. Most science fiction books routinely stretch what is possible, but this book accurately depicted science, with no time travel, or teleportation. Instead, this book recognises what is possible. The characters in this book were also very real, with unique personalities and dialog. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction. This book achieves a 8/10.

SOLC 26: 77

The solid cement gleams in the midday sun, a fact that I rarely notice. I put my hand into my back pockets as I talk to my friends, and suddenly I feel something in the pocket. I examine the object more with my fingers, then pull it out of my pocket. It appears to be a small sticker. The number 77 is written on the sticker. I show it to my friends. WHY IS THE NUMBER 77???? WHY NOT 76? Well, looks like I have discovered one of the new mysteries of life.

SOLC 24: Song Lyrics

I was just kinda staring off into space, listening to the Gorillaz song 19-2000, when suddenly I realize that the lyrics are saying "Get the cool! Get the cool shoe-shine!". WHAT IS A COOL SHOE-SHINE AND WHY SHOULD I GET ONE!! I know what a shoe-shine is, but I have no idea why it would be cool. As I continue to puzzle over those lyrics, the lyrics suddenly say "There's a monkey in the jungle, Watching a vapour trail, Caught up in the conflict, Between it's brain and his tail." WHY IS A MONKEY WATCHING A VAPOR TRAIL? I mean, is he smoking? Has his best friend been shot? My advice for you Mr. Monkey, if you are reading this post, is to listen to your tail.
